Friday, March 7: Student Essay Contest Event - HACKNEY HOUSE AUSTIN

.
The first day of the Hackney House will be dedicated to the educational support project, where we will welcome the winners of the Student Essay Contest which was on for the last few months.
.
During the Contest, we received numerous papers from all over the nation. All participants tried to do their best to impress us and win; however, we had to pick only three winners who would receive the prizes and an opportunity to speak out on the stage of the Austin YES. Below, you can check the agenda of the March 7 event and find out the content of all winners’ speeches.
.
11 am: Brook Anderson, the first-place prize 400$ winner with “How to write the winning paper for a writing contest?”

.

During her speech, Brook will tell her story and share the most effective tips that brought her the victory in our contest. They are as follows:

  1. Explore your topic. First of all, to make your writing stand out, you need to know everything about your topic. There is no limit in the research that you can do, so be ready to spend a few days or even weeks to dive deeply into the problem you are going to write about;
  2. Be unique. Surely, there is no issue in the world that was not written about. Still, you can contribute to any topic if you approach it in your own way. Therefore, think about an unusual angle to look at when starting a new paper, and it will be a winning piece;
  3. Write to express. If you think that using lots of old-fashioned words and phrases will improve your writing and impress the contest committee, trust me: it will not. The jury read a lot of great papers in their lives already, and the best ones were not written in an abstruse language. Instead, concentrate on the reasoning that can express your perception of a certain problem: it is much more likely to interest the jury;
  4. Start early. If you have two months until the contest due date, start researching your topic now. Thinking that you will manage to write the paper in two days is too presumptuous;
  5. Ask for help in writing. If you are feeling uncertain about your thesis statement or any other part of the paper, consider consulting an essay writing service. Online writers can assist you 24/7 and provide you a lot of inspiration for your writing;
  6. Edit yourself. Finally, do not hesitate to edit your first draft. In fact, the piece you have written is your first attempt to impress the audience, and now you need to make it perfect to win the contest.

12.30 pm: Olivia Graham “How Hackney House supported local students and why you should participate in the next Student Essay Contest?”

2:00 pm: Jacob Doggett “What I wish I knew before writing my paper for the Student Essay Contest?”
